Instructor Steve Rose will share his experience and insight in the critique and analysis of your work in a supportive environment. Bring in any works in progress or pieces you have given up on. Find out what you’re doing right, and ways to introduce more of your own personality into your paintings or drawings. Continue to work in class under the creative guidance of your instructor. This course is open to all levels, in any media or style you choose (oil, acrylic, watercolour, pastel, pencil, etc; landscape, portrait, abstract, non-objective, etc.).
Beyond Picasso (Non-Objective Painting)

Learn the difference between abstract and non-objective painting. Utilize your knowledge of depth, shape, form and contrast in the exciting technique of non-objective painting. Learn to paint in a free, expressive way and open up new creative paths with award winning instructor Steve Rose from the Haliburton School of the Arts. Techniques from this class will translate into a freer and looser expression of your style in all your work.
Abstraction in Art & Nature
May 3 to May 7, 2010

This course is inspired by the best artist/designer in the universe - Mother Nature. Instruction will use nature as a source of inspiration and point of departure within the context of abstract art. Projects will vary widely from the use of multiples, to conceptual art, to drawing, painting and sculpture. Emphasis will be on individual approaches to creativity and personal artistic growth. This course is ideal for landscape artists that crave more artistic freedom and looser expression in their work while remaining faithful to their subject. Whether you are a beginner or have previous experience, you'll benefit greatly using nature as your muse.
Non-Objective Painting
June 7 to June 11, 2010

Learn the difference between abstract and non-objective painting. You will utilize your knowledge of depth, shape, form and contrast in the exciting technique of non-objective painting. Instruction will assist you to paint in a free, expressive way and open up new creative paths. Abstraction to Non-Objective Painting

This course is designed to take you into the realm of non-objective painting, whether you are an experienced or novice painter. Starting with a number of warm up exercises and projects, subject matter will gradually be reduced until you are painting with no subject at all. You will be encouraged to work on your own projects or the instructor can assign topics and/or approaches for you and your work. Non-objective painting can be challenging but the skills learned and the added freedom of expression would benefit any art practice.
Drawing the Figure for Beginners Workshop

Working from the human figure is fun, challenging, and very rewarding. You do not have to be a natural at drawing. Skills can be taught, encouraged and built upon. Utilizing both nude and costumed models, you will learn about gesture, contour, design, proportion and composition. Experiment with a variety of media and techniques that will energize your creative self. This class is an asset for anyone interested in sculpture or portraiture.

Open Studio Painting
October 25 to October 29, 2010

This course is an excellent opportunity to challenge, explore, and expand upon your personal art practice. The learning environment is an independent open studio format that is suitable for any subject matter and style of approach. Expand your visual language, painting skills, and artistic literacy in a safe and highly creative environment. Instruction will encourage creative imagery, content, and contemporary execution of your ideas. In addition there will be ongoing personal and group critiques as well as daily informal lectures on artists, art movements, and related art history.
