Steve Rose's works on paper combine watercolour, ink and mixed media with script in a contemporary creative format. Obsessive and labour-intensive, they draw their inspiration from mantras, prayers, poetry, meditation, song lyrics and modern-day slogans. Reminiscent of tablets or stele, prayer flags or street art, some are profound and reverent, while others are humorous, lighthearted and thought-provoking. CHANTS offers the viewer a multilayered visual and emotional experience.
